Top Ten Tuesday: Intimidating Books

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish.

This week, Top Ten Most Intimidating Books
1. Doctor Zhivago - Boris Pasternak
There are really two things that intimidate me about books. Their rating by people that have thus classified them as classics and their length. At 592 pages and having been made into at least one movie adaptation, that classifies it enough for me. And is enough to intimidate the hell out of me.

2. Paradise Lost - John Milton
I really, really want to read this. I even tried once. The problem is the verse. I mean it ids brilliant, but to really understand its brilliance i'd need to have a doctorate in mythology and allegory. So I stopped reading and read a book of compiled mythology. I didn't pick this back up yet.

3. Love in the Time of Cholera - Gabriel García Márquez
It's one of the books that I am supposed to have read. I've heard so many opinions about it that I have stay away. Plus it has the word Cholera in it.. scary.

4. Don Quixote - Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra
It's a foreign book. And HUGE.

5. War and Peace - Leo Tolstoy
It's a foreign book. And HUGE.

6. Crime and Punishment - Fyodor Dostoevsky
It's a foreign book. And HUGE.

7. Anna Karenina - Leo Tolstoy
It's a foreign book. And HUGE.

8. 1984 - George Orwell
This time it's the science aspect. I read Dune and it kind of turned me off to sci fi books. Unfair, I know. I do want to read this though, even if they go into too much science detail (not that I know if they do or not)

9. The Count of Monte Cristo - Alexandre Dumas
This is not just this book. I want to read the whole Musketeers series. I've read the first one, but when I think about all the others and how big each is I just go read something else.

10. Slaughterhouse-Five - Kurt Vonnegut
This really is the same as 1984. And pretty much everything else on this list. I should read it. I want to. But I just haven't yet.
