Reading Romances Challenge 2012

It looks like I have found another challenge that I think will be really fun. I already read so many romance novels as it is, so this will give me some guidance to the mess that is my "to-read-rom-nov" shelf on Goodreads.

Reading Romances is hosting this with a new challenge every month. I can't wait to get started!

I think with this challenge for my romance novels, the TBR Pile Challenge to expand my comfort zone, and the Goodreads challenge ticker looming at me in the corner, I have a good balance. This is doable!

  2. A question...what would you recommend to me as a new romance reader as a first must read that would really get me into reading the genre? I read almost everything, depending on my mood, but I would love to find some quality romance.

  3. yay! It's so fun to be willing to explore new genres. The cool thing about romance is it spans almost all of them. For any full fledged genre there is a sub-genre for romance.

There are two romances I would tell you to chose from The Lord of Scoundrels and The Spymaster's Lady. Smart Bitches, Trashy Books frequently tells new romance readers to try The Lord of Scoundrels. I've read it and it was quite enjoyable. If you want a more spy/adventure twist with the romance, read The Spymaster's Lady. I highly enjoyed it!

If you want more humor with a great romance I would say the Duke and I is a great choice.

I personally enjoy the historical romances, but if that is not your thing I can phone a friend to get some other recs.

Let me know whatever you choose and how it all works out!

  4. Thanks so much for the recs:) I actually am looking for more historical romances to try, so these sound great. I added them to my Kindle wish list and will choose a couple to buy. I saw you also enjoyed "When Beauty Tamed the Beast" and read the first few chapters as a sample...the resemblance to "House" is amusing (I used to be a huge fan of it), so I may have to try that one too. I will definitely let you know what I choose.

  5. Oh! When Beauty Tamed the Beast was marvelous! It is one of my favorites. It was a great adaptation. That's a great one to start on too. :)

  6. If you wanna get into a historical focused on the relationship between the characters with a comic side, you must check Julia Quinn's The Duke and I!

  7. I bought "The Duke and I" since you both seemed to recommend it highly, and something funny is always good when I've been reading too many serious books. I also had to get "When Beauty Tamed the Beast" because the first few chapters had me laughing out loud and I have to find out what happens. I just know I will be picturing Hugh Laurie throughout, but that's fine with me:)
Currently I just started "The Night Circus" for an online book club discussion, but I can't wait to read the Regencies.
